Out of 132 team that took part in the National Investment Banking Competition (NIBC) hosted by UBC in Vancouver, 3 Rotman teams made it to the final rounds in Vancouver. Spread over 2 days, the conference entailed speakers and industry panelists presenting on several Capital Markets topics to over 350 delegates. The final round started on Day 2 at 6:00 AM when each of the 10 final MBA teams from across Canada were presented with the case information in their hotel rooms. With 6 hours to crack the case and put together a presentation, each team looked at the strategy and financials of mid-stage Gold developer – Guyana Goldfields and were asked to advise them on a current offer and whether to sell the company or develop the high-grade mine.
Each finalist team presented to a group of 3 Investment Bankers at their respective offices and from this 1 Rotman team was called upon to present during the final gala dinner in front of senior Investment Banking professionals. With Rotman and UBC in the very final round, Rotman clinched 1st place, a deal toy, $5000 for the team and bragging rights. The winning team was made up of Aman Malik, Gregory Jones, Stephen Ou and Shaaj Vijay.
